Spotify has a group messaging feature now

Image
Spotify has a group messaging feature now January 29, 2026 at 11:37PM Andre Revilla Spotify is adding group chats to the messaging service it premiered last year. In an addendum to the original blog post introducing Messages, the company announced that users can initiate chats with up to 10 of their friends to share the podcasts, playlists and songs they are listening to. The in-app messaging feature, which was released last August, works to keep users on the app instead of navigating to another platform to share content with friends. Since its introduction, Spotify has added functionality bit by bit. Earlier this month, the company added the ability to share what you're listening to in real-time . Users can also invite chat participants to join a Jam, the app’s collaborative listening tool. Spotify isn't the only content platform trying to make in-app messaging a thing. Late last year, YouTube said it would be testing DMs , after originally adding the feature in 20...

https://ift.tt/0nepq4D Report: China approves import of high-end Nvidia AI chips after weeks of uncertainty January 28, 2026 at 11:21PM Benj Edwards On Wednesday, China approved imports of Nvidia's H200 artificial intelligence chips for three of its largest technology companies, Reuters reported . ByteDance, Alibaba, and Tencent received approval to purchase more than 400,000 H200 chips in total, marking a shift in Beijing's stance after weeks of holding up shipments despite US export clearance. The move follows Beijing's temporary halt to H200 shipments earlier this month after Washington cleared exports on January 13. Chinese customs authorities had told agents that the H200 chips were not permitted to enter China, Reuters reported earlier this month, even as Chinese technology companies placed orders for more than two million of the chips. The H200, Nvidia's second most powerful AI chip after the B200 , delivers roughly six times the performance of the com...

Apple reportedly plans to reveal its Gemini-powered Siri in February January 25, 2026 at 11:43PM Jackson Chen A new and improved Siri may finally make an appearance, but this time, it could be with a Google Gemini glow up. According to Bloomberg 's Mark Gurman, Apple wants to announce a new Siri in "the second half of February" that will show off the results of its recently announced partnership with Google and offer demonstrations of the Gemini-powered capabilities. After this reveal, Gurman reported that the new Siri will make its way to iOS 26.4, which is also slated to enter beta testing in February before its public release in March or early April. Apple has been meaning to launch its next-gen Siri ever since its announcement at WWDC 2024, but now we know that this Gemini-powered Siri will behave more like an AI chatbot , similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT, thanks to another Bloomberg report from last week.  Following the reported demo that's scheduled ...

Winter storm snowfall videos: Social media reveals how hard the storm is hitting

Image
Winter storm snowfall videos: Social media reveals how hard the storm is hitting January 24, 2026 at 11:11PM A monster winter storm is currently barreling through roughly two-thirds of the United States, stretching across a massive swath of the country from Amarillo, Texas, to familiar winter hotspots like Boston, Massachusetts, and Buffalo, New York. Reports from outlets like CNN indicate that cities like Boston could see more than 36 inches of snow over the course of the weekend, while areas south of the snow line, including Charlotte and Atlanta, are expected to see less snow and more ice, a combination that makes road conditions especially dangerous. The scale of the storm has also driven a surge of activity on social media in the days leading up to its arrival. Across the country, residents have been clearing store shelves in preparation for being snowed or iced in, posting photos of empty aisles and last-minute supply runs. This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might b...

US Congress members call for 'thorough review' of EA's $55 billion sale

Image
US Congress members call for 'thorough review' of EA's $55 billion sale January 24, 2026 at 11:58PM Jackson Chen Before Electronic Arts goes private in a groundbreaking sale, some US lawmakers are pleading for some federal oversight. Democratic members of the US Congress, as part of the Congressional Labor Caucus , penned a letter asking the Federal Trade Commission to "thoroughly review" the $55 billion acquisition of EA. EA confirmed the sale to the Public Investment Fund, or the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia, Silver Lake and Affinity Partners in September, but the deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027. Before the official change of ownership, the 46 House Democrats who signed the letter to the FTC are calling for more scrutiny into the impacts of the deal.  The letter noted some of the most consequential effects, including the worsening of an unstable industry, the potential for more layoffs and increased market dominance fo...

Meta is temporarily pulling teens' access from its AI chatbot characters

Image
Meta is temporarily pulling teens' access from its AI chatbot characters January 24, 2026 at 12:06AM Karissa Bell Meta will no longer allow teens to chat with its AI chatbot characters in their present form. The company announced Friday that it will be "temporarily pausing teens’ access to existing AI characters globally." The pause comes months after Meta added chatbot-focused parental controls following reports that some of Meta's character chatbots had engaged in sexual conversations and other alarming interactions with teens. Reuters reported on an internal Meta policy document that said the chatbots were permitted to have "sensual" conversations with underage users, language Meta later said was "erroneous and inconsistent with our policies." The company announced in August that it was re-training its character chatbots to add "guardrails as an extra precaution" that would prevent teens from discussing self harm, disorder...

eBay bans illicit automated shopping amid rapid rise of AI agents

https://ift.tt/vTGNtVh eBay bans illicit automated shopping amid rapid rise of AI agents January 22, 2026 at 09:56PM Benj Edwards On Tuesday, eBay updated its User Agreement to explicitly ban third-party "buy for me" agents and AI chatbots from interacting with its platform without permission, first spotted by Value Added Resource . On its face, a one-line terms of service update doesn't seem like major news, but what it implies is more significant: The change reflects the rapid emergence of what some are calling "agentic commerce," a new category of AI tools designed to browse, compare, and purchase products on behalf of users. eBay's updated terms, which go into effect on February 20, 2026, specifically prohibit users from employing "buy-for-me agents, LLM-driven bots, or any end-to-end flow that attempts to place orders without human review" to access eBay's services without the site's permission. The previous version of the agre...
